Using red spectrum VHO lights?

I have a couple of ATI Pro Color (red spectrum vho lights). I just put them on my SPS dominated tank and it gave an interesting look to it. It obviously brought out the red from the SPS frags. I have 3 250W Halides at 20K and four 39 watt Blue Plus VHOs. I don't see others using this spectrum of lights. Would it grow more algae in the tank or is it just preference?
Appreciate the feedback.

I tried these in the past. They were overpowering, IMO. Switched to Fiji Purples, much better.

thanks for the input. What do you mean about overpowering? I only have it running for a couple of days now, so nothing new yet. Obviously some of the reds are coming out more.

I had it on an 8 bulb unit and all I could see was the red bulb... It wasn't very nice on the eyes.

I have to agree on the overred part with you. Thanks for the response.

So are you going to continue running the red VHOs or is it too much for the eyes

It's a bit too much. The coralline on the back of the tank wall light up with a reddish hue. It looks like my corals are in hell or something. Something like Dantes Inferno tank. I will check into the Figi Purples. I do have some purple actinics, but my tank is very blue and that back area is kind of darker. I will also experiment with 10K lights in the back. Just a couple of them. Will the purple actinics encourage coral growth or 20K halides are enough for that?
