Pink Ecoxotic Stunner Strips? Anyone heard of this???

Check it out: I've been hearing from my LFS that pink stunner strips would soon be available from Ecoxotic, and I found the info below while trolling for more info (Googled "pink stunner strips"). It says they'd be available for purchase in April, but it seems that the sale date has slipped.

Quote:
If you’re a fan of the Stunner LED strips, then Ecoxotic has got some hot news for you: the stunner LED strips will soon be available in three more colors and three more lengths. The easy to use Stunner LED strips will come in a 12K Blue that has royal blues and 12,000 Kelvin white LEDs (as opposed to the 8000 Kelvin whites that stunners currently use), a Magenta Blue with one pink LED for every two royal blues and a Magenta White strip with two pink LEDs for every one 8,000K white diode. The new Stunner LED colors will cost the same $49 as previous six watt Stunner strips and they will begin shipping in April. Additionally, the Ecoxotic Stunners will soon also be available in 24, 36 and 48″ versions but pricing and release dates have not yet been released.
I have 4 T5s over my tank (2 blue/2 white), 8 of the Ecoxotic Panorama modules (blue/white), and 3 blue stunner strips. Other than making my wallet a little lighter, what benefit would I get from adding a pink stunner? Would my red/pink/purple SPS look more red/pink/purple? Should I expect a subtle difference or a profound one?

Red/pink hues would bring out the natural color. Check out THIS posting where the individual colors are show, and how the red brings out the natural colors. Very nice.

To be honest you would be better off changing out to a pink T5 bulb. You will see a bigger difference IMO.

Using an ATI Purple Plus in place of a white T5 will help your color rendering a TON! Right now you are just running a 50/50 combo of white and blue. It has long been proven that that combo isn't great for colors.

With you having some T5's in the mix, you have a HUGE advantage over other LED users IMO. You can add spectrum that LED's just don't have.

Totally agree w/ this.
One stunner strip in that color probably won't be strong enough to cut through your T5's enough to really make a difference, but a purple plus T5 will be a huge improvement on coral colors, just did this myself.
The LEDs you have probably add good shimmer and slight color enhancement, as well as ok PAR value on the panorama modules.

Man I love Reef Central, and I think this actually represents the forum SAVING me money, rather than costing me money. One T5 bulb is a heck of a lot cheaper than a 48" LED.

So just to confirm, you're suggesting replacing one of my "white" T5s with an ATI Purple Plus bulb. I have 2 each Giesemann 80W, 60" ActinicPlus and AquaBluePlus bulbs. Would you recommend I place the purple in the front or the back of the hood (see arrangement below)

Here are shots of my hood and tank:

You want the purple bulb in the second slot. That way the light strikes the viewing side of the corals.

Blue
Purple
LED
LED
White
Blue

Make sense?

I bet you like it so much you will want to replace the other white as well. I have been using T5's for about 6 years. My current tank is the only tank I haven't used T5's. I have a nice 7g tank so T5's don't work for me and I miss them! I stopped running Aquablue bulbs about a year ago. I got tired of them washing out the colors. They are nice for brightening things up but the new pink bulbs are bright and add a nice warm touch to the tank.

Next question: ATI Purple Plus vs. Giesemann AquaPink? I only ask b/c my LFS carries the latter, and not the former.

Agree w/ rtparty on bulb placement, and looking at that tank pic it's going to be a nice change for you, corals will really pop.
I'd stick w/ the ATI myself even if you have to order it.
I'm surprised link didn't go through, usually not a prob.

I found a nice wavelength comparison between the ATI and Giesemann bulbs, and it appears they're identical (with some speculating they come from the same place, just relabeled). So, that said, I'll be picking up my Giesemann AquaPink bulb sometime next week when I get a chance, and will post a new, comparison picture here.

ATI and Giesemann are built in different factories. KZ and ATI are both built by Sylvania.

Giesemann bulbs put out a lot less PAR compared to their ATI counterparts. I say get the Gmann because it is local but I would never recommend buying Gmann when ATI is also available.
