Sump Pump Rookie

HI all! How do you pick a pump for your sump? I am setting up a DIY 30 gallon sump to go underneath my 46 gallon bowfront display. If the pump does to many gph won't the tank overflow? How do i pick the right pump/.. what is the right pump? Thanks

depends on the capacity of your overflow. this can help.

you need to post more information about what you want to do with the tank and the specifics of your overflow.

The nice thing about all centrifugal pumps is that you can put a valve on it and slow down the flow if need be. IT will not hurt the pump to do this. Now getting a pump close to the correct size is best, but you might have to slow it down a little.

With that said, on a 46 gallon dt, I would only look at 250-400 gph going through the sump. So I would suggest a Quite one 3000 pump or a mag 5 pump.
