I've had this for a while, it wont happen to me.

Heard a bang thismorning at 7:20- thought it was my brother hitting my door with his belt or something on his way to work. 8:00 rolled around and there was a funny clicking from my tank that I associated in my 1/4 awake mind as being cavitation from a pump, so I unplugged some pump cords, everything stopped, so I went back to bed...

Woke up at 11:30, walked past my tank and thought "Hm, whats that red thing floating in the corner- Why, it's the twisty dial thing from my Marineland stealth hea- oh ****"

Luckly, she blew up and not out. Marineland customer service was exceptionally firendly and told me that they would issue me a refund for all my heaters and they wanted them back. Also, due to the age (6-7y) of my heater all I had to worry about was copper and to do a water change, run a poly filter, and some carbon.

So- Like everyone else I warn you: Marineland has recalled their stealth heaters, and it's not that it wont happen to you, it's that it hasn't happened yet.

P.S. Anyone with personal experience have any further advice?

i took mine to petsmart and they gave me store credit, not exactly what i wanted, as petsmart doesn't have a huge selection of SW stuff, but who couldn't use 120 in store credit for 3 heaters i wasn't using anyway.

So despite water changes, carbon filtration, and the like the tank has fully crashed and I've lost nearly everything- but my green star polyps survive -.-

You should make your entire setup costs (livestock included) in your damages claim to them in great detail

Be sure to claim copper pollution as destroying your system

Worst case they say no and give you some crappy credit somewhere... Best case they step up to the plate and replace your tank and setup

Personally, I've banned anything "marineland" branded until they take care of this issue in a professional manner

My LFS has said that they have cut checks for people and he's personally seen it done so I have some hope. Marineland was exceptionally curteous and said they'd give full credit for every heater of theirs I could scrape up, I've emailed them about replacements, when I talked to them on the phone yesterday things we're still looking good in the tank, likely cuz it'd only been an hour or two since the accident. I'll keep people posted as to what happens.

I honestly don't think it's an issue with their new heaters! the stealth heaters should be freshwater only I tell ya! I think the salt does something to them.

Also my visitherms by marineland have stopped working but I can't get into contact with them :/

Thanks all for the support, I've appreciated it greatly. I've downloaded my pictures for those interested, you can see where my Marineland Stealth blew its top off as well as cracked on the side. I've since replaced it with a Jaegar. Copper levels after 2 20% water changes sit at .25ppm, amazing since the heater was only in the water for 3 hours after she blew.

Anyway, here's the devistation, some have some before and after pictures please be aware that my water is exceptionally cloudy due to death and destruction. For amusement you can also see where the GSP survives

These were my hornets...

Mixes of odds and ends zoas

Trumpets: They're nearly white now

Hoping marineland will be kind and help me out. I'm not looking foreward to starting my Zoa collection over again. Once again: If you have one of these heaters they're on recall I guess, so turn it in.

Man i just had an issue with my marineland stealth as well! I woke up and my tank wasnt even registering a temp. B/c it was so high, i went to unplug it and got electricuted because of some stray voltage and about vomited all over the place because of how intense i was. I pulled the damn thing out and im not even running a heater currently and my tank fluctuates between 78-80 from night and day. ****in thing damn near killed me! Do you have to have your receipt or anything to return it for credit etc...? And now my wagon wheels, and hammer are in rough shape, my 2 heads of frogspawn are completely dead. What can i do?

If you call Marineland customer service they'll e-mail you a shipping label and refund your heater money no questions asked. My heater's 7ish years old, so theres no way I have any reciepts. I've e-mailed requesting some sort of assistance, we'll see how it goes from there. Marinelands customer service is 800-322-1266

You didnt have to have the receipt or anything did you? I mean they cant expect people to keep them realistically...I really liked my grape frogspawn too and now its a skeleton. My hammer is still in rough shape and my wagon wheels are open very much but I wonder if theyll do anything for the inconvenience. Im sorry to hear about your crash man, I feel for ya! Well thanks for the heads up and the phone number, much appreciated!

I had a stealth malfunction and it sent the tank to like 93 degrees. Everything looked cloudy and closed up like your pictures but in time most things survived. Give it time and don't do anything drastic.
(I realize I didn't have the copper breach that you had. Just saying all might not be lost)

I removed mine when the news came out. For those that have them still and don't have a receipt, it's not needed. Just print this link take it to any chain petstore that sold them and tell them you can find the receipt. They will return it for store credit.

So sorry to hear about the terrible loss. That really bites.

They wrote me a check it took about 6 weeks. Make sure to document everything and don't stand for anything besides a check, they knew about these problems for years and didn't do anything about it which is why they are paying out otherwise they'd have a class action lawsuit on their hands.

Those zoa's don't look so bad. Just ticked off. Go buy a 10g tank and make some fresh water. Put everything you can that looks "somewhat alive" and hopefully you have some survivors. little 10g tanks are critical tank savers if anything ever goes bad like this. Sorry to this happened but get that stuff in another tank asap. Rinse them in a fresh bucket of water before you put them in the 10g to make sure you get most of the copper remnance off of them. Good luck to you.
