Coraline algae bleaching
Just put 3 250w phx 14ks over my tank 2 weeks ago(first mh i have run always used vhos) and the seed rocks i got seem to be bleaching out under the mh. Just wonder if there is such a thing as to much light on coraline algae. Starting to get bummed 3 month old tank and no coralline spread at all(1 month with the seed rocks)Water param's are well in check.

ziyaadb is probably wrong. Your lights are pretty intense and corraline prefers shaded areas. If it was growing and then you switched your lights and it stopped, there's your reason. Your coraline will grow back no doubt, but expect it to be in the shaded spots.

Coraline algae can also turn white if there is too much Calcium suspended in the water causing it to precipitate. "When ph and akalinity are high , calcium joins with carbonate to form calcium carbonate crystals which fall out of the water like grains of small sand. It also accumulates on pumps, heaters and other sources of heat." (From another members quote.)

Coralline Algea?
What is your magnesium reading? If it is low bring it up to 1300-1400ppm. I use Tech M by Kent or brightwells,Magnesion,..Kents Tech M= comes in a gallon size =Good deal !!!! I add per directions every three days. Must get Mag up to grow coralline, you could also try purple-up or aragomite.....

My coralline beached away from my live rock when I put in my LEDS. Only the surfaces directly exposed to the light lost it, the undersurface and under overhangs still has plenty.
It's all over the aquarium walls and I have to scrap it off weekly to keep it off the front glass. I don't think it's necessarily a water parameter thing. I think it's a change of light intensity issue.

I sat through a presentation on lighting by Anthony Calfo. He specifically mentioned that coralline seems to be very sensitive to lighting changes. He believes that even when we pull the rock out of the water, it's not actually the air killing the coralline but the shift in light intensity. I wouldn't doubt that it's your sudden change in light intensity that caused the sudden bleaching. I have seen coralline grow under PC lights just as well as it does under MH. It just seems to need some time to adapt to the changes in light intensity.
