a few diy led questions
For MH supplement, I purchased x12 RB cree leds along with the meanwell "d" driver to dim with a pot.
1. For use with a timer, can I leave the 10v wallwart for the dimming circuit plugged in at all times and have the timer operate just the 12v from the driver (on and off). 2. I am screwing the 12" x 1" heatsinks (6x LEDs per) on both sides of my Metal Halide pendant. This seems like a terrible way of doing it as the heat from the MH is immense as it is. The question is, if the LED's are dimmed to 30-40%, would the heat be too much without fans? 3. Im confused about testing the led string with a multimeter to calibrate the meanwell dimmable driver. I understand you must turn it down all the way, then turn the screw clockwise until the multimeter reads my desired output (700, or 0.7), my confusion lies in that im not sure where the multimeter "prongs" should go or when I should give the circuit power. I dont want to blow anything! Thanks

Enyo, i was having issues with step 3 as well. I tried seeing what the dimmer would put out by putting the multimeter on the red and black wires. I also tried to put the prongs in the circuit as well. I took out one of my soldered wires and had the multimeter act as the connection. Well.. i would still get no reading. I finally got frustrated and a guy my mom works with that is an electrician for the city is looking at it. He figured out one of my drivers so i took him my other 5 today. He said he would explain it to me when he was finished. He said that he turned them down so they werent full power. He said he was having an issue getting an exact reading as well. I will let you know what he says tomorrow or when he gets back to me.

Is it the pdfs from rapid led? Because i was using those and i have had 4 people look at it. my dad, cousin who is very smart and wires things all the time, two other electricians from the city, they had no clue either and said to have the guy that is working on them now for me do it. I got them to light no problem.. i just want the know that i have the recommended load on them..

This i what ive gathered so far from other threads. I am unsure of where the POT fits in to all this and what it shoul be set at while you are testing the led circuit...
All connections are soldered in pic and the multimeter leads are to be clipped secure to the negative wire.
