Non-growth lighting?

Hey all,

Got a question on lighting. While normally people are looking for lighting to help the corals grow etc. I was wondering if there is lighting that would not extend the photoperiod and would only be used for display purposes?

Right now I havemy lighting turned back to help manage algae. The corals that are in there are dong fine, but I just can't see what's going on in the tank.

Would "normal" flouresent lights do for algae/coral?

How about regular Blue led not Royal Blue! I would try all blue, matter of fact RapidLed has come out with a 2 or 4 led Moonlight kit, you could also buy whatever size heatsink you need for pretty cheap as well.

The algae can't really utilize the blue end of the spectrum.

Ahhh - OK! I'll look into something "blue" - another question - would blue tint on regular FW light work? (try to save dough where I can )

Probably not. There would still be some red to the spectrum. The LED thing has the advantage of only emitting a narrow band to begin with.
