When to buy new bulbs?
When do you know it's a good time to buy new bulbs? Are there any indicators?

I change mine every 6 months, MH. That way I know my bulb is always putting out it's best PAR.

When I get an algae bloom at around the 9 month mark, that's when I know to change my lights (t5s)

I have T5s and they are about 6mos old. I haven't really noticed an algae bloom yet, but they are enclosed in a hood and I read that the heat might shorten their lifespan. Just wanting to make sure I get the best output I can.

Non cooled T5's need to be replaced every 6-7 months. Properly cooled T5's can go about 12 months.

I used to run my T5s for about 14-16 months. the best way to do it, though, is to get your hands on a PAR meter and measure new bulbs (after about 3 or 4 weeks of break-in time) to trend output loss over time.

Do you have a recommendation for a budget friendly PAR meter? |
