bristleworms love me so I pet them

does anyone else have this issue? I have been setting up my new 125 FOWLR and I have been stung 3 times in the past week!

I never felt it but I noticed when the bristle brushed across something.
if you have ever gotten a wire bristle from a cleaning brush or wire wheel in your hand it is almost identical.

luckily I am clearly not allergic and even though my rock is FULL of these guys they are all small.

I must say I do enjoy the large ones in my reef come out at feeding time though. I actually really enjoy these guys and can't wait to find a 1 footer like I keep hearing about.

I've never seen a 1 footer, but have seen them 8+ inches and bigger around than a sharpie. Some people use duct tape to get the bristles out, but I just put my finger in a cup of lemon juice. It smells better than vinegar.

Of all the worms I've had, my only stings have come from anemones. I don't think I've ever touched a worm - move slower

Pettimg them huh. While bristles are essentilly harmless they do sting an unprotected finger. If you have a fetish for your new pets' then gloves are in order.

I don't ACTUALLY pet them, but I keep working in a cloudy tank and getting single bristles here and there.
I do like to watch them though.

Sure, if you are into a worm thingy in your diet.

Anyone know what the fatty acid content is of a bristle worm.

We could ask Andrew Zimmer. I get stung by bristleworms quite a bit. The lemon/vinegar works good for it.

Even if you are not allergic now, you should still be careful. You can develop allergies to things like this quite suddenly and without much warning after repeated exposure.
