What is this stuff in my tank? looks bad :(

So I noticed this under one of my rocks, it doesn't look very good. But I could be completely mistaken!
I don't have a high resolution camera so this is the best my phone would take... It is on the backside of one of my live rocks that hosts some corals. It is whitish and seems sticky (I couldn't word it any better sorry..) It almost looks like its dripping off.
Does anybody know what it is? harmful? how do i fix it if it is?
Thanks everyone, i'm a little worried =/ I just rather be safe than sorry!

And if it's a sponge, that's a good thing overall, to answer your other question.

Perfect, glad to hear its a sponge. So the next question... do I keep it or try to rid it from my tank?

Keep it and what ever you do NEVER let a sponge touch air.. it will die and give off toxins
