aiptasia

I have a small aiptasia in my Incredible Hulk frag. Is there a way to get rid of it without harming the corals?

try peppermint shrimps. They might pick at the aptasia only. I've added 3 peppermints to my tank to help with aptasia and i've been noticing more and more aptasia that have like 2 tenticles left so i believe the peppermints do work against aptasia.

I would rather not get peppermints because of the aiptasia. I only have 1 aiptasia in my tank. I know it can quickly mutliply but I already have a pair of blood shrimp, 1 skunk cleaner shrimp, and 1 tiger pistol shrimp. No room for any more shrimp in my tank. I thought about attempting to pull it out with some twizzers but for some reason that sounds like a bad idea.

Shouldn't hurt the zoos. you can chop those things in two and they will keep on growing. The bigger problem with it is where there is one there tends to be more.

You can put some boiling hot water to kill it

I don't think that would be very healthy for the zoanthid it's on

It's kinda hard to just pull them off, for one they'll retract into the rock as soon as you mess with them, and also if you end up tearing them the remaining piece can regrow it.

Nuke that sucker and do it soon before he makes more.

I would be worried that all the normal things to kill them would hurt all the surrounding polyps. Maybe just cut the one that its on off.

i've read that aptasia will grow back even if u just cut it off. maybe try some joe's juice. thats what i used in the past when i had a lot of them. It comes with a syringe so you can just get it on the aptasia directly on the mouth. worse comes to worse, you'll lose a few polyps if you get the joe's juice on the polyps, but they grow quickly.

I personally would use lemon juice and a hypo needle.. just make sure you inject in the actually mouth of the aip and your coral should be fine turn off powerheads too while injecting.. then turn back on when it starts to "melt"
Good Luck!!!

Aiptasia-X works really good and comes with a pretty good pinpoint syringe that gives you very good control over where you're applying it. If you turn off all flow when applying (per directions) you should be okay. Good luck!

Thanks everyone now I have to decided which method I will use. It's either aiptasia x or lemeon juice. I might have to go with Lemon juice since I just spent most of my money this week on corals.
