choosing a pump
I'm wondering what the best pump option is for my tank it's a 250 gallon reef with a 100 gallon sump in the basement I have two overflow boxes that also house a return on them.I'm thinking of using two pumps one for each return, should i do that or no? Also if I run two pumps how many gallons per hour should they be pushing out I've heard for a sps tank u want 30 to 40x turn over in the tank, how much of that comes from the returns? The distance from sump to tank is 9ft 9in vertical on both pumps and horizontal 5ft 5in on one and 7ft 5in on the other,is the sump to far away. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

first of all two pumps is twice the price, twice the power, and twice the headache. roughly you are wanting abuot 4-6x flow thru the sump. so that will give you like 1000-1300ish thru the sump. so find a pump that will give you that gph with the head height you have. its best to keep is simple and not complicate things no more than you have to.
