Wink Red LEDs

I was just checking out the new LEDs available from rapidled and it looks like they have red ones now. I'm Really exited Im thinking about putting about 21 of them over my 125 7 on each partition of the tank that way I can use a standard meanwell driver and dim it with my apex. Im hoping it gives a nice color because the LEDs I have seen with red lights do an amazing job. what is everyones suggestions on this. I think I'm just gonna get them no matter what it seems like a great addition right down the center of my existing LEDs. It's only about $140 to add them all so it's not a huge loss even if they don't look that great.

What are you trying to accomplish by doing this?

I would think that there are 2 purposes.

1) Deep red provides specific PAR that is needed for shallow water corals. Just be careful because deep water corals don't do well under a lot of red.

2) Some corals will look much better with a little red. Agin, be careful because red LED's are very powerful. I would think that you should try 2-3 on your tank first to see how things look (and react) before buying too many.

Doesn't algae thrive on red spectrum light?

I thought it would give it a nicer look because I've seen some professional models with red and they seem to look really nice with the red in them.

they are 1 watt reds and I want to keep sps. I was looked it over on my fixture and I think 6 over each partition of the tank so 18 in total and just have them dim if anything.

My experience is 12(other color):1red is the most you should use or else everything looks purplish.

I also use red at night as a spy night for fish porn.

Well, they definitely work for that. Most animals underwater do not see red.

Not sure if it the same color or spectrum . I added a TrueLumen Rose/Red led 10 inch strip to my SB Slim Line S unit .
It gives a nice pop and contrast in the evening .
I wanted to get some red leds for my unit from SB but they advised it will cause algae issues and retrofitting in my unit would be hard .
No algae so far and I like it for the 4 hours it comes on in the evening with just the blue leds .

HERE is a 220g with some Auraled lights that have red in them.

HERE is another large tank with the same led fixture, with reds.

If all depends upon how much red you add to the rest of your setup. I like a little, not very much. I will be putting some red led's to supplement my Current LED Pro strips.
