What is the best backup power supply?
I need a backup power supply does anyone have a recommendation? I saw a 900w power supply box on amazon. How long will that box run a 12w powerhead? Please help. Thanks.

Keep in mind that normal battery backups are not designed for extended use with motors or heating elements. Meaning they may work for lights and your controllers, but that's about it. The only solution is a generator.

Most inexpensive battery backup units provide a stepped approximation to a sine wave rather than a sine wave. Works fine for many products including computers with switching power supplies. However they don't work well with motors. You'll probably find that the backup won't even start up your power head.
I just purchased two Vortech powerheads along with the battery backup. It's supposed to keep a powerhead going for 30 hours, but my main purpose is to keep the powerheads running long enough for me to hook up the generator. |
