Reef safe rock?

I recently acquired a tank from a friend and I sold the tank but I kept the rocks that he had. From my understanding he had it set up as a fowlr but this was about 5 years ago. The the tank itself was probably 10 years old. The rocks are large pieces and I would hate to get rid of them. I have only ever bought live rock or brs rock for my other tanks so I usually wouldn't worry about it. Is there a way to tell without doing a chemical/mineral analysis if it is reef safe or not?

It's sitting in a bleach/water bath right now. The rock has been dry for nearly 5 years. I'm not willing to put it in my tank unless there is a way to know what it's made of or if there is something simple to do in order to find out if it's safe or not. I have read that pouring vinegar on it and if it bubbles it's calcium based and that usually means it's safe? yay? nay? I would hate for it to leach anything unwanted in the tank.

But it in a tub with saltwater and a powerhead for a few weeks and do a water test. I'd be looking for copper specifically, as it could have been in a tank where medication was used. You can also try to measure phosphates to see if any wastes are leeching back into the water. I probably wouldnt stick it right into a display, I'd certainly spend a good amount of time recuring it (even with a light to go through any possible algae cycles).
