Best method of moving a 265G UP STAIRS!?
Hey there guys, you might have seen my other post about me deciding whether or not my apartment can hold the 265 gallon. After a lot of debating, phone calls, and head aches. Fortunately for me, it will be able to support the tank.
My question to you guys is, what method of moving/carrying a tank of this size would make it possible to get it up one flight of stairs? Thanks for anybodys input with past experiences or just helpful advice |

if you can get a hold of suction cups, they work out great.

Best thing to move that = a checkbook and a phone call
call LFS service and have them do it... make sure they have insurance That way if they break it you get a new tank |

I would agree with rtb388, your LFS could do it for you. But for a tank that size get a CC ready. Good luck!

Don't be a Sally, just get yourself 3 strong friends, pick it up, and walk up the stairs. It's no different then getting a refrigerator up the stairs.
Word of advice though, offer up the good beer and pizza for the move, with a 265 Gal, you don't want to be offering Icehouse and Tombstone, you want some Sierra Nevada Summer and some stuffed crust from Pizza Hut.

a 6ft 280g 1/2" glass tank weighs 400lbs. my 180g with 3/4" glass weighs 435lbs and we carried it with 4 guys with ease.
if you want to make it easy, rent 2 sets of those suctions cups from those AAArent all places for about 20bucks. that will also make life easier on everyone maneuvering up the stairs.

Hahaha thanks for the responses guys!
Don't worry beer will be on tap, and better yet were ordering some buffalo wild wings AFTER the move. I feel like I'm kinda treating my friends like dogs by giving them rewards? Lol I'm gonna upload some pics of this tight turn I have to somehow navigate around, I'm afraid I'm going to have to move the tank over a ledge for about 6 feet.... (getting nervous) |

When we moved my 225 gal glass tank it took 6 of us to lift it on the stand comfortably. 4 guys carried it from the driveway into the house but they had to take several breaks. The tank weighed almost 500 lbs.

Well ya see I don't really feel like paying people to do something I'm completely capable of.. Im gonna have ten guys there (most of them are probably just there for the free food and drink haha)
But I'm only gonna be able to fit 4 of us two on front two on back. |

Combine my idea with Chris27's idea....
get the beer and pizza ... and watch someone else do it for you while eating and drinking! Now that's a good time |

Exactly, I mean there might be some technique but come on.. How much knowledge can it take to pickup a really heavy aquarium and moving it, I think about 90 percent of it is just putting on some big boy pants and getting it done! hahaha
I've attached some pics of the stairs and the turn we're gonna have to make. I'm not sure it will make it without us having to hand it between the two posts to the far balcony |

Its going to be tough. Measure the corner before you start moving it.
I didn't see your other post but I guess you figured the apartment can hold that much weight? I would be worried about that more than moving it. Either way good luck. I go by: 180-210 2 guys 240-270 4 guys Then after that it just depends on glass tickness, tank manufacturer(mainly AGE as they are super light or an acrylic tank), and so forth. |

I have a lot of guys coming, I'm just afraid only 4 will be able to fit as we go up the stairs..
And, I'm not sure how or where I can measure around the turn up top considering the angle that the tank will be at |

FWIW, I was able to get my 150g with 5/8" glass (a bit thicker than standard as my tank as no cross braces) with just one friend and some moving straps down the stairs since it's getting set up in the basement. It was a little work-out, but otherwise easier than I thought it was going to be - getting it into the stand was more difficult since it had to slide in from the back. Your tank is obviously going to be heavier, but nothing a couple more hands can't fix. Just plan it out, and don't give anyone beer until after it's moved.

Lol, the beer is going to be there award for finishing the move...
But hopefully four guys, two on front and two on back can get it up the flight of stairs, and all of us other guys can help on the bottom and top of the stairs!! |
