RKE temp probe calibration help
here`s the post i left on the digital aquatics forum !!!
i figured there`s way more traffic here so good chance someone might know the answer thanks for any help possible.. hi !!! i finaly ugraded my rkl for a rke with two extra pc4s so now i have 5 pc4s with a sl1... ok,, so when i first pluged everything in my 3 previous pc4s wouldn`t work and neither did my sl1 so i went on myreef and upgraded them all to the newest software... everything works except my new temp probe !!!!!??? i even read all the temp prob problemes and found one like mine.. when i calibrate and set my temp i wait for the numbers to settle,,they never realy settle but they jump between a few digits...the thing is no matter what the water temperature the reading is always the same as the set point !!!! is my probe defective !!!!!!! i tried the plug it into the sid while on my reef, click on the graph on the left and chose sl1 but tehre isn`t a diagnostic button on the right like i read on another post,,where i should be capable of chosing tep probe and set to factory default !!!! should i remove my head unit and see if it`s got the absolute latest ??? need help before i go buy another probe.. steffyeloowtang Posts: 1 Joined: Wed Apr 28, 2010 5:58 am Private messageTop |

hope its not itemp probe. coz itemp probe doesnt work with rke. if thats not the problem then goto sl1 on myreef and go under dignostics and then look for the temp probe. once u see it there reset it to factory default settings.
i had the same issue with my temp probe. once reset it shows right temp rather than what we set it for. hope it helps.

thanks !!!!
nope not the itemp,i got a brand new temp prob specificly for the rke.. i tried with the my reef but can`t find the diagnostic button !!!!!???? all i see is an explanation of what the update does and a clear button.. where is this diagnostic suppose to be..it should be there i just updated it..even did it twice just in case i missed it now my raw date is -17 !!!!! i just tried to calibrate again.. and on my screen there`s a flashing triangle..i`m guessing it`s because my probe isn`t working. i tested it in a glass of cold water to see if the temps would move but it stays at my set point... weird to the point i might go and buy another probe just in case this one is defective for some reason.. |

ok make sure all the system is running and wired like normal. then attach the SID to an open port of any module and connect to myreef.
once connected u should be able to click on ur modules and see diagnostics.

rnorning bump for much needed help !!!!
tried everything suggested but no change, all i still get is the set point temp.. won`t even react to wram or cold water heres what i`ve done so far (copy pasted it from my thread on DA forum) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ tried but no luck !!! when i plug my head unit it says it need to update from 02.03 to 02.05 but when i click update i get the image telling me to make sure it`s plugged in properly (it is) and error message( Primary checkSums don't match: File=B743,Module=76CC) !!!!!! i checked my two other pc4s and they are ok..pluged them in with sl1 and head unit to see if i get the diagnostic but all i get is a flashing action on the left.. or does it have to be plugged up with all the pumps going ect ect..... think i`m going to try the factory default on the head and try again !!!! you would think that a simple temp probe is plug and play..now i dont even think i can hook my rkl back up because most likely all my updated pc4s won`t work....i need the temps probe for my heathers/chiller !!!yeloowtang i did a factory reset on the head and reprogramed the entire thing again !!!! still the temp probe won`t budge !!!!!! and as suspected my rkl won`t work the pc4s anymore so no back up plan i realy need to get this probe working and i know the probe is ok because i instaled the same conector on my itemp probe to see if it would work and it does the same thing...prety sure they are all the same probes with different ends on them ... now i can`t update the head for some reason,,,hell can`t update anything, they are all identified with the sid but won`t update..the first time when i tried to update it worked like a charm and i could even update again the same module..now i can`t... help me please i need to go for a walk now !!!!!!!! back later steff |

atest update..
i`ve succeeded in updating my head unit !! why it didn`t want to earlier ??? i have no clue.. yesterday it did the the same thing when my son was on his wireless ipod !!! the two of us on the net seemed to create a probleme.. anyhow everything is updated and my probe still reads only the set point..worst now when i go to the sl1 i don`t have the clibrate button just set point and save ????? i realy need to get this thing working, everything else is a charm except the temp probe... why can`t they just make it si an itemp probe could work....???? hope to figure this out soon... next step is i will have my brother inlaw come over with his lap top and we will hook up to myreef and see if that diagnostic thing realy exists hehehe |

ok i took pics of my phone for you. step by step where u need to click. i am not sure why u are not seeing the diagnostics on there. also i noticed u cannot maximize the myreef program. if u do it will hide few bottons. keep in the size it opens.
first u load ur myreef then u click on ur module in my case SL-1 then click on diagnostics once in diagnostics u click on factory settings on the temp probe. hope that helps sorry for bad pics off the phone.

wow !!!! thanks that was perfect !!!
the only way i manage to do it was with his lap top. maybe if i had the reef keeper net i could get there myself on my pc.. it works now but i can`t calibrate it again ,when i go to the temp probe all i have is set point and save on top.. if i do it !! it locks again and i have to reset it to default... it works like it should but it`s 2 deg lower then actual temp so i need to keep an eye on it..at least it`s stable..i might get another new probe just to test this one... and then try to recalibrate..now i know what to do.. thank you verry much for you time and help with this... now off to understand the alarms on the RKE they seemed better on my RKL when on the rkl you would set it and say when to come on or off.. say pc4#1 socket 2 off when temp above ect ect havent found this yet... cheers steff |

on the temp probe once u follow the directions i gave u and reset it to factory i wouldnt go back in rke to calibrate it. mine is dead on temp at factory.
regarding ur alarm for pc4. u goto alarms and set say alram#1 then u goto device= temp and for temp u select 79f and above mode off. save it then u goto out on pc4 socket 2 and under alarms u add alarm 1 mode off. save. that would cut the power on socet 2 when temp goes over 79f. hope that helps. EDIT: mode on / off is ur choice, i wrote with off to shut lights of in case tank is too hot. or u can have fan on if temp is over 79f.

thanks !!!
makes sense must be all that tinkering arround with the temp probe that got me not thinking right hehehe when i was setting up an alarm i was chosing the device i wanted to react !!!! i will test another probe just in case..my chiller temp sensor indicates 77/78 my thermometer inside the tank indicates roughly the same,my itemp probe used to be about the same but this one falls short 2 deg !!!!!! thanks again steff |

Im not sure how old this thread is but i am running into the same problem where my temp probe is not working correctly. I reset to default and then the probe reads the wrong temp!! is there something im doing wrong? when i go into the SL1 on my head unit the only option is to set the target temp. so I do that and then its on point in terms of what my thermometer says. but I would imagine the temp probe needs no calibration and should be able to detect the correct temp on its own? is this a correct assumption?
