150g Tank Dimensions
I'm considering an upgrade from a 90g to a 150g (still have to get the boss on board with this idea) and am trying to decide between a 48lx30wx24t and a 60lx24wx24t. Which would you prefer and why?

I have the 48x24x30 tall. A PITA to set up due to depth but beautiful to observe. Something about the tall glass that sets it off.

if you like fish, i'd go with the 60x24x24. tangs in particular would appreciate the extra length.

I also think I could get away with a 6x54w t5 setup over a 60x24x24 but I would need at least 8 bulbs over a 48x30x24, adding to the cost. I already have a 4x54w retro over my 90g so I would only need 2 more for a 5' setup.

It would be for the tangs. Right now I have a yellow and a tomini in my 90g but my true favorite fish is a naso tang. I know 5' is a little tight for a naso but I've been told I can get away with that for a few years before I have to let it go to a bigger tank.

I've got a 60x24 and love it. I recently checked out another tank in sd that's 48x30 and the guy said maintenance is a pain- the "wall of corals" look was nice though.

Oh, and in case this makes a difference, I'm planning on making this a peninsula if I go this route.

If its peninsular is there a reason you cant go 60x36? as when I was trying to scape a 30" wide tank I found it was better than 24 but that extra 6" would have ment I could've made it soo much better. This was using rods and drilling LR.

I also have the 48 x 30 and while it can be a little difficult to reach the bottom, the tall look more than makes up for it. It just takes a little patience placing you corals that's all.

Depends like said above if you like corals more the 48x24x30 tank would look nice with corals. But if you like fish more the 60x24x24 will give you more options on a fish list.

Well, I ended up finding a killer deal on a 60x30x24 full setup on my local forum and I pulled the trigger. Just waiting on him to finish the breakdown and I'll be picking this bad boy up!

60x30x24 are good dimensions... Congrats.
Personally I'm going to do a 150-ish gallon tank that's 60x36x18. I have plans for the shallowness. ![]() |

I'm limited by funds and space availability so I think this is going to be the biggest tank for me until I graduate college and buy a house of my own.
