Question alkalinity test

I was doing my first alkalinity test and the instructions said count the drops added until it turns yellow. I did that and counted 19; does that mean my alkalinity is too high. all my other parameters are okay. calcium is up a bit at 500 but everything else is okay. I got a 55 gallon with 100 pounds of live rock. is it okay at that level?

It tells you to count the drops, but does it then tell you what to do with that number? For some kits, you have to cut it in half, in which case you're golden. For some kits you cut it by 4, in which case you would be low. For some kits, it's the number, in that case you're high.

What kind of kit is it?

yeah something is definitely not right. Usually 8-9 drops is good for that kit for me. I have since moved to using red sea kits though.

+1

Are you caping and inverting several times for each drop? 19 drops is a Dkh of 19 or 339ppm and that's way high by anybodies standards. The cart on that kit only goes to 12.

Retest and let us know.
