Lighting Cheato

For those of you with cheatomorpa in a sump/ refugium, are you lighting it 24/7 , opposite the display, or something else?

6 AM to about 11pm as son sleeps in same room and the light would annoy him. During the heat wave only had them on early AM.

You could try rubbing two sticks together, but a lighter would work better. I don't think it will light very well though unless you dried it out.

I've tried both for extended periods of time (1yr+). In my system, opposite lighting schedule worked better than 24/7, by a mile.

17 hours a day for me. Semi-opposite my DT lighting. I have LED lighting in the DT that ramps up and down over a 4 hour period each way so the 7 hour break in the refugium lighting occurs during the most intense period of DT lighting.

I use led lighting 24/7 during the summer and during the winter I plan to use a 6500k lighting, that I already use in the raining days. But I'm thinking of changing to night time only, around 10 hours of light.

I think he meant opposite his display. That's how I roll as well. When the dt light turn off the fuge lights go on etc.

Yes I understood that. I wanted him to elaborate on the "opposite lighting schedule worked better than 24/7, by a mile"

I run mine 24/7 right now just because I don't have a timer for my light. I will eventually do opposite the tank.

I believe I've read somewhere that even macro algae needs break from the lights sometimes, so the reverse photoperiod does better because the algae can regenerate sugars when the lights are off.

I run mine on a reverse photoperiod as well. Display is 9am-9pm and fuge/sump is 9pm to 9am. I need a stronger light on mine though. Its just a clamp on desk lamp.
