Suddenly: Shrimp Larvae Everywhere!
We brought home a fire shrimp about a week ago. it's quite large. Today, we brought home 3 peppermint shrimp. About an hour ago, we looked over and saw a cloud of tiny shrimp. The fish were eating them quite quickly, so we scooped a bunch out into a jar to look at. They are tiny little shrimp larvae.
Could this be from the fire shrimp? i.e. was s/he pregnant when we got her and then released a cloud of larvae? I've tried looking it up but haven't found anything helpful. I suspect it is not the peppermints because they just came in today. The fire shrimp was ducking under the large leather coral for awhile and then was hiding in the back of the tank when this occured. Any thoughts? We're setting up a little tank to see if we can keep any of these little guys alive. Thanks! |

could be from either I suppose. not sure on the viability on shrimp since I've not tried raising any. Free food to your corals/fish if they keep spawning like that.
can you get a pic for us

Peppermint shrimp will spawn easily. It takes some work but they can be raised in a breeder tank, away from fish. There's a book http://www.amazon.com/Raise-Train-Yo...2003781&sr=8-1 that will step you through it. You have to have tiny food for them as hatchlings.
My shrimp would spawn every 3-4 weeks. I never got to scoop any out to save. They were free food for the fish.

we are setting up a small 3 gallon for them with a light and are going out to get a bubbler. then we're going out to get them some shrimp-sized foods. We hope they make it!

ever tried to save any of them? we feel like it would be a nice attempt. they are so cute. we saved about 200 from the fish. the jawfish was gobbling them up like he was on a mission.
