how to propagate ricordea?

I have a single small piece of rubble with 1 ricordea on it.
I want more!
if I cut this mushroom in half do I HAVE to seperate the 2 halves? will they grow into 2 mushrooms on the same rock if they are simply cut in half and left or will they fuze back together?

I ask because relocating one half of the mushroom to another rock sounds like a good way to loose one half when it blows away in the current never to be seen again

should I wait until the mushroom gets larger to cut it? it's about 1-1.5" across right now

I really don't know much about them, but the two I got have been splitting on their own. You're right that they can drift away, which I have just been letting them do. They seem to reconnect to something on their own. I think you can put a new down around them, like stocking or bridal veil, and that will hold them down and give them time to attach.

Just keep the water nice and clean, and it'll pop off babies all by itself. If you cut it prematurely, you run the risk of killing it unless the cut is just right. In the event you do find some drifting around the tank, just grab it up and put it in a bowl of sand or rock rubble. It'll attach to it, giving you something you can wedge in place or glue.

I have never tried cutting an leaving in place. Probably would work.
If you cut and remove half, just put the new piece in a small plastic dish with some large-grain sand and rock rubble with netting over the top of the dish and put it in an area of lower flow. It will eventually attach to something, and even if it is some sand, that will be enough to then attach it to a rock.

We have a ricordea frag we've been growing. It's quardupled in size in the last 3 months. It still only has one green mouth in the center. I was under the impression that without the mouth, it's not officially a full ricordea. I heard of some people cutting straight through the mouth, but that seems iffy. We're hoping ours will split but it just keeps growing outwards. And just now, we found one of our clowns napping in it. Our clowns don't seem to be picky. They nap in anything and today, the ricordea
