Powerheads...help

I am back to piecing together my 210 reef tank and now i have come to the point where it is time to decide on powerheads. Because cost is an issue i have decided to go with Hydor's controlable pumps. My question is which ones should I get and how many? I plan on keeping SPS LPS and haddoni carpets and clams and fish.. So i am thinking i will need alot of flow. Would two hydor 7's be enough or should i look at getting a mix of 7,5,4's?

I always prefer more small ones, rather than a few large ones. You get equal circulation but with less of the strong streams that tend to blow substrate around.

Hold off for the Hydor Smartwave wavemaker and see which Koralias are recommended to use with it.

For that price, you can get a pair of Tunze 6105's....

But in the event you go with the Hydor ones, the 7's would be a good amount of flow for you. Perhaps better would be (4) 4's though and the 4 way controller. You'll be able to spread them out a little better across the tank.

I would like to use an Apex controller to run everthing in the tank. That should be possible with they Hydor's right ?

Not sure about that one....officially, the hydor controllable pumps have to be controlled by their proprietary controller, as you can't plug them into a typical receptacle.

The standard non-controllable pumps can run on an Apex, but operations will be limited to on-off, vice the the random flow obtainable with controllable pumps like Tunze, Vortech, and some others.
