3x AI units for a 180G oceanic?

I know a few people have used 3 but I haven't really seen many details. This would be 72 LEDs and most likely would switch to all 70 optics or raise them to the ceiling. Would these lights be able to keep deresa clams on the bottom if the lights are either 1ft or 2 ft above the tank? I know there are many LED threads, but few have anything such as 2 over a 120g or 1 over a 60g.

I think you will not be happy with the results of only 3 even with a switch to 70 degree optics. I also think your clams will not be all that happy but I cannot say for sure.

Well the problem is, since its a wonderfully crafted oceanic tank, it has two 8 or so inch glass braces dividing the tank into 3rds.

I saw two on a 120 gallon 24 x 48 x 24 - 12" above the tank, and it looked bright. I don't think you could keep SPS all the way across but maybe set up two seperate islands and keep SPS on those centered below the lights

I'm going to use 4 over my 5 ft 120. Mainly because of the center brace

I am using 3 on a oceanic bowfront 175/180 gallon tank with no issues. I have them cranked to 75%

wow, really?

i've personally seen 3 AI's ~12 inches above the waterline on both a 180g and 220g SPS dominant tanks and the coverage was excellent!

the only problem your going to have with running 3 AI's over a 180g is the center brace. my friend had the center braced replaced with 2 smaller off center braces

I guess it depends what you want. I found (all 70 degree optics) that my horizontal dimension (length) for an AI covered two feed well and my vertical dimension (width) covered about 14 inches. this was at a height of 13 inches.

I have 4 over my 180 which is 72 x 24 x 24. I have them mounted 14" above the water long way down the center. Coverage is excellent, no dark spots and this is with the optics that came with the fixtures

Honestly? please only comment if you actually have the Fixtures or even just have LED!!!! like so^^^^^ OP i would advise you look at the AI PAR thread on here by looking at that im thinking 3 will work but 4 might be best .

Well, the tank is full of water, but the braces are on the sides of the middle. Its overkill for the tank I'm sure. Its 2 about 8" braces of thick glass.

Sorry mad but just because I don't have them yet doesn't mean I'm can't give my recommendation. You may step down from the horse.

I will step down buddy.... but question is have you seen what they are capable first hand? just a question is all. These little bad boys pack a punch! even with the 70* optics .

BTW the horse ran away ... thanks.

Yikes on the braces man.... 4 will be a little much but being that your brace is center I guess just dim them down, but why not DIY? bigger heat sinks(2) and lay out the LED's to your desire, 1 Great on coverage and 2 you control the amount of Par and finally Cheaper than 4 AI.

I am running 144 on my 210, but mine actually has 3 openings of 24X24 each. Split the amount in half and should provide plenty of PAR! 72 at each opening maybe use some C-Channel to lay out all your LED's and you will have complete coverage as well as PAR!

Just my 2c.

Granted I have mostly softies in my tank, two LPS and 2 clams everything seems to be thriving. My settings are whites at 40%, royals and blues at 55%.When I first put them in I ran them at 55% whites, r&b's at 65%. My corals didn't like this too much. But since tuning them down all is happy. Also I have a closed top on my tank (Its Acrylic and I keep the covers in place)

I have 6 AIs over a standard 180. I replaced 3 400w MHs. I tried 4 AIs but did not care for the coverage, 6 covers the entire tank at about 12-14". The corals have shown no ill effects of the change from MH to LED. Most everything I have is sps.

AMDphenomx4 here are a few. Crappy camera or operator malfunction. Probably the latter of the two.
