Particles in the water?
I have an open top tank and i'm getting some debri/bacterial film on the top of my water.
I don't run a sumped setup, and i am only running a skimmer at the moment, as my tank is new, Reactors will be online in a few days. Just wondered if there was anything i can run to help cut down on this and also remove particles from the water itself? Don't want to run a filter if i can help it... Thanks. You can point your powerhead towards the top to help keep the particles in the water column.

It's a new tank and we all go through that, this too shall pass. If it bug's to bad you can just shut pumps down let the tank calm and take cheap paper towel like sparkle lay sheet on the surface and that will soak up the film.

It doesn't bug me per se Sport, it is unsightly, but i do worry whether it can have an effect on my fish or not, which is the main reason.
As long as it can't harm my fish, i have no problem waiting for it to pass |

Hopefully if you have fish your tank is cycled? If so it wont hurt them. If your tank is not cycled there is more that can hurt them than a surface film.

Worked well, still not completely gone but helped remove the film, i may run a small external filter when all the reactors are online and after water changes for a few hours just to clear up the particles.
Thanks |
