need help with 250 mh placement/bta dying

i really need some advice on placing my hood. i just got my 36" odyssea adv plus hood. it came with a 250 watt mh, 4 actintic blue(460 nm) t5 bulbs, and 4 blue led.
i found the mh to be bleaching my leathers, my rock, hermit crab shells etc. i replaced the t5 bulbs with 2 10000k coralife and 2 actintic (420 nm) bulbs instead of running the mh because of heat and bleaching.
when i got home from work today i found my bta near lifeless, very droopy, not moving with the current and a big gaping mouth. I turned on the mh figuring this may be the issue and almost instantly it started showing signs of life.
i was hoping you guys could give me some ideas on light and anemone placement that will keep my bta alive but not bleach everything.
the first picture is 5 minutes after i turned on the lights and the second is about 20 minutes later.
currently the lights are 5" above top of tank, 6" above water, 12"above bta and aprox 22" above substrate

from what i have heard you should place it at around 12" above the water.... I am curently building my lighting system, and will place my 2 250w mh at 12" above the water.... keeping in mind that my tank is 24" tall
