Trip to the Cape and Tank Crash Update
Well as most of you may have read one day before vacay my main display tank crashed due to a heater malfunction. So good news first vacay was great. I saw several hundred harbor seals on a remote beach basking in the sun, 30 humpbacks in a feeding frenzy, a parasitic jaeger for any bird enthusiast, and went snorkeling on the outer most tip of the Cape and managed to come across 4 Loligo squid which I followed for a good half hour or so. In addition to many different crabs, horse shoes, shrimp, fish, etc. All in all a great trip for wild life. So now for the bad news the day before I left in a desperate panic threw anything that looked like it might survive the mass die off from the crash in two of my other tanks I knew this was a risk considering I was overloading them and not going to be around to monitor them but I had no choice with the limited time I was literally leaving in a few hours. Well coming home wasn't pleasant aside from just the vacations over feeling. One of my other tanks took a hit and wiped out EVERYTHING... fish, coral, snails, crabs, shrimp, stars, even the bristle worms were dead... The cramming of everything in addition to the fact that most of it was dying must have just been too much for it to take. I did a 90% water change and cleaned everything out that I could and got rid of all the dead tissue. It was a terribly foul smell to come home to. I literally wanted to cry and I'm not the sensative type but the first crash killed me but I thought perchance I can save this still. Now everything is gone. It looks like some zoos and star polyps will recover despite everything. It's going to take some time before the tanks recover but any frags would be much appreciated once everything is good and stabalized again. The wife's been out of work for a few months so I've been doing double duty on bills so it's going to be a good while before anything gets back to near as beautiful as it was but any help would be great. What's even worse was the tanks were getting so over grown I was about to trim back a bunch of stuff and have a frag give away myself. C'est la vie

Wow. It was worth a try. I probably would have done the same thing to save my livestock from the first tank. This is such a tricky hobby with no real guidelines. It seems we've all had our disappointments. Hopefully when you are ready, we can all pitch in to get you started again. Good luck.
