Jellyfish aquarium

Hi, does anybody keep Jellyfish. I have wanting for years to keep Jellyfish but they need a special tank and none available in South Africa. It would be nice to see some home setups especially diy ones.

I'd really like to know if this were true: http://gizmodo.com/5830679/kickstart...fish-on+demand. If so it would be very cool.

It is my understanding that they are impossible to keep in a home aquarium.

I don't know if this tank would work on this scale but, the design is actually practical. I remember seeing a special on discovery channel about the box jellyfish where a researcher had figured out a way to keep the tiny species Kyronex fleckeri alive in a tank of similar design. This was several years ago and the tank was about as tall as a man. The tank was designed that way because, apparently, jellyfish will die if their bells come in contact with the sides of the tank. The researcher's circular tank kept the jellyfish from contacting the sides with a water flow that followed the curved walls of the tank. So, maybe this could actually work?

There is someone on nano-reef keeping 3 in a tank and they have had them for over 6 months now. You just have to buys a special tank for them and food.

if I were to keep these guys, I would definitely get a jelliquarium. They prevent the jellies from getting stuck anywhere and keep them in suspension.

Research Kreisel tanks. I volunteer at a good size aquarium and have spent sime time talking with their keeper of Jellyfish. She showed me several of their setups all using the Kreisel tanks. If you want more information on my talks with her I took some notes for setting up a Kreisel system for another breeding endeavor I was looking to start but never had an opportunity.

I dont' have any pics, however I do have some sketches that I drew of the systems. I'll post them up when I get a chance or do a quick redraw in Photoshop, just give me a couple days.

Sorry it took so long to get this up. Tell you the truth it fell off my radar.

Here's my notes on the system that she was raising the jellyfish in.

Basically making sure the spraybar sprays the jellyfish past the screen in a circular motion. She said it can take some adjustment on the spray bar output to keep them from getting damaged with too much flow and having enough flow to keep them off the screen.
