Question Eheim Compact+ 5000 v.s. Universal 1262

Anyone had a chance to play w/both to compare noise? I am about to get a new return pump and decided that I am going for an Eheim pump this time. Last time I was rather disappointed with the Tunze 1070.40 actually being relatively noisy inspite of what I interpreted as reports of quiet operation. Not terribly noisy but more so than I expected. Definitely can hear it working from a closed cabinet.

So... I see everyone is gung-ho on 1262's but I don't see anyone saying anything about Compact+ 5000, which has higher max flow, is adjustable and looks like is much smaller too.

I believe the 1262 is as silent as they get based on all the info out there but the Compact+ 5000 would be preferable if it's equally quiet (I don't want to be disappointed again and do want a quiet pump).

Appreciate any opinions/experiences.

Best,

Spacey

Cool

reefsurfing,

Yea... I did call Tunze, and dealt w/Roger and he sent me a new impeller. The old/original one has a small chip on one end. But after putting the new one in while I wanted to believer that the noise level decreased, I don't think it really did. It's not really super loud but definitely audible... The only other part other than impeller is the actual pump body itself (since it's all one block or resin), but I didn't have the balls to ask for that . Not sure they give that out as a replacement... but maybe I should try. It's been few months though.

But... So, you have a 90 and are running it off the 1073.40? I am actually setting up a 90 and was/am/sort of thinking that I may need a bit more tank->sump->tank flow than what the Tunze can do no? With 3-4 ft of vertical head plus some bends in the flex tubing, plus locline + nozzles and then a chiller in the line this thing is not going to push more than 350 GPH or so at the nozzle I don't think. I measured it before on my 30 (before the base cracked and it was about 400 gph I think but the head was lower a bit.

best,

i did research and found out that the compacts weren't rock solid as the 1260's, 1262's, etc. people complained about noise and failure rates a lot more often on the compacts.
