Radion LEDs

Hey i'm kinda confused. The write up on these lights are comparable to a MH 250W but yet you need 1 for a 40G. So with my 144G do I need 3 or can I get by with just 2?

We try to be very conservative with any rating that we provide. Check out this video below for a direct comparison between the Radion and 250w halides:

Thanks Tim. I have already watched that vid. I'm reaaly impressed with the product but the question is "will 2 fixtures be enough on a 144G half circle tank that is 48" long 29" wide and 29"deep with SPS or do I need 3 fixtures?"
Thanks

I'm thinking of buying two AI Sol Blue since the price drop to $399. I'll be doing a 50 gallon 36x18x18 in my den. Two of the Sol's will probably do a better job of lighting it than a single Radion. Two Radions at $1500 is a bit much. People with three foot 40, 50 or 65 gallon tanks are kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Not really. Do you want the full spectrum or half the spectrum?

Price drop? Where did you see that? Are you sure your not talking about the sol nano.

Wahh wahhh wahhh.
The Radion, IMO, is well priced compare to other highend LED fixtures.

Okay, do you think a single Radion could light a 36 x 18 tank?

I ordered two for my 36x18x24, figuring overkill is better than not having enough.

I really like this setup but my tank is only 36x12 (26g flat back hex). Doesnt look like this is the right choice for me Is there a way to get this setup to compliment my tank?

Wow no honest reply or even a reply at all from Ecotech. Can someone from Ecotech answer these questions please. Not trying to be a jerk but i'm ready for LEDs but want to make sure that these will be the right choice for my tank.

They were at MACNA, you may also deduce if you looked at their post times that they generally answer during weekday mornings and early afternoon.

bushnell-

We've been away at MACNA since last Wednesday arriving back at the office directly from the airport yesterday morning. We're doing our best to respond to everything as this week starts but we're going to need some patience while we get caught up.

For your tank I would recommend three lights.

For those asking about 36" tanks -

You'll definitely need to decide between one and two units. Two units will offer more flexibility, more PAR, less shadows and more even distribution over the whole tank. However with one unit mounted sufficiently high over the tank you could be OK too. At this point I would err on the side that better to have more and turn it down to suit your needs.

for a 48x20x24" tank

I would go with two to start out, this should be fine for the long term. www.mrsaltwatertank.com's aquarium is the same size.

Would I be safe with just one over a 30 x 30 x 24 cube with SPS?

I'd like to know as well. i assume we'd need to mount them higher than 8".

Although it's not impossible to light a 30x30x24'' cube with just (1) XR-30, raising it to fully spread that footprint would cause a decrease in PAR. For some it might be an option, but for an SPS-dominated aquarium we'd feel much more comfortable recommending two fixtures.
