How long is too long? Oppinion needed!
I inadvertantly splashed some water on the protective glass covering on my aquamedic pendant which caused it to shatter into a zillion pieces in my 54 corner tank. Got most of them out but now I can't run the light w/out the tempered glass because its a DE bulb and needs to be filtered through the glass from what I understand. This happened Saturday afternoon so its already been over a day. I tried contacting Aquamedic and i heard that they are pretty quick about replacing the glass shield but couldn't get through over the weekend. Say I call and they ship tomorrow - I probably won't get the light back up until Weds. at the earliest. I have 2 clams - are they gonners ? *I do have 36 watts of pc over the tank (54 corner) now from my old biocube 8 hood but it does next to nothing - clams aren't really even opening up).

Check your local glass shop, if you have one. They might be able to get you one fast.

I did - they said they can cut me the glass but it wouldn't be uv protected (tempered).

It's the UV protection that you need and as far as I know that's unrelated to tempered or untempered. Not absolutely sure on that though. I don't know if it would be exactly the same thing, but you can check with a local custom framing shop. They use UV glass to protect prints from fading due to UV exposure. They can usually cut to size. I'd run the PC light until you get it worked out. I've never kept clams so can't help you there. Maybe someone close by can temporarily house them for you 'till you get it sorted out. Good luck.

The temper gives it the UV shield.

I got UV glass from Michael's craft store. They have it in the framing department and will cut to whatever size you need. Don't know if they have Michael's in your area, but you could always go someplace similar...

What exactly do they use to cut tempered glass?

As to your original question, 3 or 4 days should not be a problem, longer than that could cause problems. Can you find a local reefer to lend you a light?

might be possible although I don't know too many other reefers in the area. Maybe I can ask aquamedic to overnight it.
