Got evicted. Landlord hustled us!

unfortunately, we got the boot. An unexpected 24 hour notice just caused my tomini tang, chalk bass, and 2 cleaner shrimp to kick the bucket. I have 4, 30 gallon, totes with rock ( only prime top pieces) and my sailfin tang and nemo, sixline and skunk pair survived the fridged trip to the motel. I have an evo 1050 stirring things up and a small heater got the water within reasonable temps but 3 buckets are waterless. How long will rock keep like this? Btw fish are eating in the tote it seems and my crabs and snails seem ok. Advise needed and appreciated. Thanks *DRAE*

Sorry to hear that...

My fish and corals were in totes for about a week while we were waiting on the correct size bulkhead. They also spent about 12 hours in the car for the move. I lost one fish the others are just fine.

On the rock I had mine some in water and some with wet newspaper in styros, just did a lot of water changes.

sorry to hear that man, when my tank cracked a year ago, I had my fish in a big basket with as much live rock as i could fit, a heater, and a fan for about a week and a half. I ended up doing a small water change since i had no filtration on the basket after a week.

Just monitor your parameters and you should be fine
Be sure to have a powerhead or airpump to keep the air oxygenated.

Not sure what the rules are in the states but in Canada eviction is mandatory 2 months notice. 24 hours!!!! how can you possibly adhear to that? My only advise for prolonged rubbermade fish tank is to monitor the SG

Its called a short sale. Owner goes into foreclosure, sells the house and new owners can toss you right out.

Thats my guess.

I know in AZ legally they have to serve you and give you 30 days.

In most states, you can't toss someone out with that short of a window without some sort of egregious error on behalf of the tenant.

Even if the place sells if you have a signed lease with previous owner, the new owner has to abide by that lease. I would contact a lawyer.

Not from what I have been reading so far. Then again, internet is full of a lot of info, but, its not just from one person, so, yea, always get a lawyer if in doubt.

like mentioned, keep and eye on your SG, test parameters, keep the water moving and do a few small water changes every few days. Did it like that for 3 weeks while my tank was being set up.

And I agree with the comment about getting a lawyer, I dont think 24hrs is legal, unless you really ****ed up.

Not that it helps now but if you get a notice like that. Even if you haven't paid. Wait till you find a new place or the police knock on your door. I know a landlord who had a tenant who hadn't paid for 6 months and there was nothing he could do about it... Most people who get evicted just leave by notice time. Those who don't usually end up living there for a few months for free. Messed up I know. Being a landlord can be tough.

here in mi u can give a tenent a 24 hr,7day or 30 day notice. just because u get a notice deosnt mean u have to move out. after the notice expires and the tenant hasnt moved out that gives the landlord the right to take them to court and have them evicted. the whole process takes just over a month.

Wow! So much negativity. I received a five day notice to pay or quit and thought it was a mistake ( notice in x landlords name, btw). After calling my landlord to tell her I was concerned about it, she said it was a practical joke on her best friends behalf and everything was good. Well... Not good. I guess she isn't even the owner and hustled us for first and last months rent to pay her move in after she defaulted on her rent with the real owners. The real owners, who live in the philippines, were duped by her also. They thought we were her relatives ( my wife and kids) just living with her. The owner contacted me today after his (newly hired management company) popped up to snap some photos, and some light was shed. Longest 2 days of my life honestly. Sorry for the short initial thread people, I didn't think I'd get flamed though. Well not flamed, but damn!!!

My 11 year old daughter just asked me what a meth lab was... That's not cool at all! Thanks csmfish. You wanna take this one? Don't be fooled by my avatar, we're good people man. That was unnecessary.

Wow that sucks! BTW I wasn't assuming it was about money I was just making a point that its hard to evict someone even when they aren't paying. Your situation is really messed up. Sorry for your losses m8.

You def need a lawyer though!

I agree...get a lawyer.

My comment was towards the landlord, not you. Sorry if there was confusion.

No where in there did I say it was you or implied you. It was a blanked statement and a joke and you should have known it was a joke. Sounds like your depressed and I am sorry about that, I now its hard with a child. You could have explained to your daughter what a meth lab was, aka "its a place where people make explosive mixtures against the law" or something to the sort. She is 11, she would have no idea what it was about. I too am getting kicked out against BS and have no place to go and have no family. At least you HAVE some family in your life, you dont even want to hear MY story. I have a dog and cant even get a $400 room because of her, no one wants us. The only thing in my life I have I will have to give her to the pound so I can find a place to live? Thats real nice. A lot of us have it tough, not just you.

Whats wrong with the avatar, I dont get it, am I missing something? Looks okay to me.

This thread makes me display my skeptical face...

I'm not aware of any state that allows 24 hour evictions for anything other than non-payment of rent. (Not saying there isn't one, but I'm not aware of one.)

It's a lab where they cook methamphetamine.
