Drilling a 40g breeder

I'm going to have a shop drill and put in my corner internal overflow for me. My questions are:

How many holes should be drilled?
How big should they be?
Where should they be drilled?
Should I drop the return in over the top, or in thru the box as well?

This is my first time getting into this stuff and I've searched, however everybody does different stuff so I just want to make sure I do this right the first time...

Thank you for your time.

I would do atleast one drain and one return. Maybe do the drain at 1" and do the return at 3/4". If your paying for someone to drill it, I would have the return go through the box.
