silent overflow, noisy pump
Well I just got my new tank up and running with the Herbie method and the overflow is dead quiet. The problem I have now is the hum from the external pump which is fairly loud.
I was thinking of adding some insulation to the sides and doors of the stand and I was curious if anyone has done this and which type of insulation would be best. Thanks.

i've got the same tank, and similar concern- i've used a larger piece of plastic silicone or vinyl tubing cut lengthwise wrapped around the feet of the pump to try and minimize the noise.
it helps, but i'd love to hear other ideas

Im having the same problem with a reeflo dart. Is your pvc dirctly to the pump or goes thru a rubber medium. I heared if it goes sump to pvc straight to the pump it causes extra vibration noise. Im thinking of cutting the pvc from sump to pump and putting a rubber adapter from pvc to pvc where i cut..

Try a Neoprene pad under the pump, maybe some rubber feet/bumps similar to those of Bubble King Skimmers.

I'm not familiar with the "Herbie method", but I have the same problem...quiet overflow and noisy pump. I'm currently looking into a product: an acoustical (soundproofing) panel that can be attached inside the lower cabinet. It's designed for use in high-moisture areas (swimming pools, gyms, etc.). It can be attached to the interior of the cabinet using various approaches (glue, tacks, etc). I can't say whether or not it will work at this point, since I haven't yet installed it, but I should know more in a few weeks. If it works, I'll keep you posted. Web link below if you're interested.
