reef ready lights marineland
Are these lights any good for a novice just starting out? I'm trying to win a set but if I don't win are they worth the money? I'm looking to start off with a pretty small tank- 15 gallon.
If anyone is wondering Instant Ocean is giving away 2 sets once they reach 800 likes on Facebook. All you need to do is like them to be entered in to win. Just figure I'd share. Last edited by mp3coupe; 09/29/2011 at 02:21 PM. |

Consensus on the Marineland reef ready LEDs is that they are not great for reefs, despite their name.. JMTC & GL!

I won a set at MACNA last year and if I'd paid for it, I would have wanted my money back. But I'm asking more of it than you will. I have it over a shallow frag tank with a real mix of frags (including sps). It does OK for zoos, softies and even LPS, but it can do anything for the sps even in very shallow water. In your 15g with anything but sps it will work OK. If you have to spend the money, get t5's or better leds.

I didn't win one at MACNA , I bought two off winners though (free money for them). For LPS in a shallow tank (less than 14") they're great imo, ime.
At the price point they're a real value compared to T5s or power compacts. Especially when you take into account bulb replacement costs and electricity usage. Ron Reefman, What do you want for your crappy worthless free Marineland LEDs ? I'll pay shipping
