Not new to the hobby but...

...I am new to this forum.
Since I have read 'til my eyes bleed, I have learned a lot here already.
I bought a Volition Loin that is now eating frozen, thanks to this forum. I do have a few questions.

1) I read here somewhere that windex for the outside glass was bad? Why? I have been using it for years.

2)I forget where I read it, but if I hear a clicking noise coming from my rocks that it's bad. What is it? Is that why my green chromis disappear?

3) I already have the Lion. I'd like to add a Blue Tang, Bluehead Wrasse, a yellow Foxface and maybe a Long Horn Cow fish. Sorry, I don't know the scientific names. IS there a proper order to add them in?
Thanks!

as far as the windex. as far as i know there is now problem with glass tanks. i think it more pertains to acrylic. when your use chemicals such as windex on acrylic it can cause "crayzing" it looks like thousands of little cracks and looks terrible. and in some cases can even cause the tank to break! and as far as the fish go, what size tank is this?

Windex is fine for glass tanks, may cause hazing on acrylic or so I've heard. Just don't spray it in the tank. I spray mine on a papertowel in another room.

Clicking noise is typically a pistol shrimp (pretty harmless) or a mantis shrimp which can be more destructive, but wont break glass tanks contrary to rumors.

No idea on the aggressive fish. I don't keep them. Maybe someone else will have more to add here. JMTC & GL!

And, welcome to Reef Central!

It's a 180 gal with a 40 gal sump. I am running 2 Fluval 405's with carbon, a sock and a skimmer that isn't all that great. Not sure how much live rock I have but it covers most of the back and it has some really nice growth on it.

Clicking noise

The clicking noise I have in my tank is my mantis shrimp...

I had a reef tank set up for YEARS...heard clicking noises the entire time and never found the culprit ...I'm told its either a pistol shrimp or mantis (my bet is pistol) ...not certain if pistols are harmful, but big manitses can be

Newcommer to newcommer:
Tangs? I wouldn't admit to even getting one around these parts unless you got a tank over 100+ gallons....seems to be a politically incorrect thing almost as unholy as cycling with live fish (but its OK if kill them 1st and use the carcasses)

anyway HELLO

Windex over used adds unwanted ammonia into the water , in a FO tank its not so bad but in a reef tank it could effect the corals. Spray the towel away from the tank and then wipe the tank down , much better and less chance of over spray entering the water.

Clicking in the rocks could be a crab breaking away the rock to increase the size of the hole he is in. Or even a pistol shrimp but i dought the shrimp as your stock would or will eat him.

This chart helps decide if fish are compatible. http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/c...lity_chart.cfm

I have seen the chart but I don't understand how it works. Whats with all the blanks, like dwarf angels and live rock / sand?

What an inane, uneducated remark.

People say not to use windex because there are people who spray it everywhere and get it into the tank. Just be careful and spray it lower on the glass or on the rag instead.
Do not use windex on acrilic.

Clicking noise is probaly a Mantis if your fish are vanishing. They will eat almost anything they can catch
