Dead lionfish and a Spinning trigger...
Newbie question here.....I have a 75 gallon w/ 30 g sump, reef octopus skimmer, chaeto refugium in sump, all water parameters are perfect (0 ammonia,0 nitrites, 0 trates, ph 8.0, temp 79.2, salinity is perfect), about 50 lbs of live rock. Tank was cycled in about 3 weeks and sat running for another 3 before I added livestock. I currently have two damsels, a small Picasso trigger, and a niger trigger.....
My dilemma ( in which I searched for but could not find).....I bought a dwarf lion yesterday at the lfs. My rookie mistake is that I bought the fish as soon as he came in. No time to observe his behavior. I slowly acclimated him to the water using the drip method. He immediately hid and appeared stress. I read that this is typical behavior for a new lion so I let him hide for the night. Long story short, I came home from work to find the dwarf dead, hiding in some of the live rock. I had to fish him out of the rock with a net and when I did, the picasso took a few nips at him. NOW, my picasso appears to be sick. He has been spinning in circles for the past two hours. He is still eating, but appears to be disoriented. Its not getting worse, but there is clearly something wrong. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this....I understand the lions are venomous but could they sting when they are dead? Is the picasso demonstrating that type of behavior (ie stung or poisoned)? Once again, water parameters are perfect, all other fish are fine. |

I have no direct experience but Ive read never to mix triggers with lionfish. Ive seen video of it aswell where the trigger attacks the lion and kills it
