dry rock questions.

So my fiancees dad had a sw tank about 10 years ago, and after taking it down he placed the LR into the yard. I am going to be upgrading and was wondering if using the rock in a new tank would be an awefull idea. I live just north of Chicago so we get all different kinds of weather. Also does dry rock need to be cured I know this may be a silly question to ask since it doesnt have any die off but I figured better safe than sorry.
Thank you and happy reefing, Tony.

The big concern would be what kinds of chemicals (weed and feed, fertilizers, insecticides...) has it been exposed to over the past 10 years. In my opinion, it's just not worth the risk.

Someone stop me if im out of line but...

Placed it into the yard as in buried it? I wouldnt take the chance. Smply not worth the risk.

Rock should be cured before putting it into a saltwater tank with fish, however of you buy the fake rock from a lfs then placing a piece or 2 into your tank will be fine assuming that you have some cured live rock in there already to speed up the process.

I wouldn't take the chance, as everyone else has said you have no idea what the rock has been exposed to.

Buy LR from Premium Aquatics, it is far nicer than anything I have seen in the area & if you pay for ground shipping it shows up the next day since we're so close.
