Anyone use hydrogen peroxide for Dinos ??

I have been hearing a lot lately that some people are using hydrogen peroxide from local stores ( walmart, walgreens ) to get rid of dinos. I have dinos and don't wanna go lightless if I don't have to . Anyone know about this ?

I have been testing in as a dip, works well to clean the frag plugs or rocks but some acropora, birdsnest, and other SPS do not like it.
Someone in our local club dosed his tank and he had no issues from it.

Okay. At first , I thought there is no way that I'm going to out peroxide in my tank, but from what I hear, it works.

Do you have any information on how the actual fish or clams like it. Clams stay healthy ? Do tangs get irritated from it ?

I used H2O2 for dino's and it didn't help at all.

I did a blackout and H2O2 at the same time and it didn't make a dent in the dino's population.

Just dosed Ultra Algae X for the first time last night.

I have used peroxide in my 5.5 gallon nano in combination with a lights out period and it worked great. Use 1ml per gallon everyday in conjunction with a three day lights out period and you should be doing good. Now the first time I tried this my dinos started to make a small come back with a return with a full light schedule, but with another three days of lights out and .5 mL in my nano everyday for a week and slowly ramping my light schedule to a full 8 hours I have been dino free for several weeks now. I have LPS, zoas, and other softies along with fish and various clean-up crew and had no ill effects.

I was sceptical when I first tired it but it worked for dino. And as an added benifit my water was crystal clear, I mean so clear you could not tell it was there and the glass stayed clean far longer than normal. I now do a weekly dose just to keep glass and water cleaner. I have seen no ill effects on any fish or corals, in fact the coloration of my fish has in proved but it may just be that the water is clearer.

I'd go with Hydrogen Peroxide first and if that doesn't work try the other suggested methods like blackouts and high pH. Use Ultra Algae X as a last resort....I am at that point.

Is this 1ml per total gallons or per gallon top off ?

I'm sorry let me clarify how much I dosed. It is 1mL per 10 gallons so I used about .5 mL in my 5 gallon. I didn't see any effect with just peroxide and no lights out it needed the lights out period to really knock it out. The dinos would dissapear at night but would just come back when the lights came back on even with peroxide. I kept up with the .5 mL dose for about a week after my lights were on full time and I have yet to see any dinos.

I dosed daily just dumped it right in the tank. I used a syringe with the mL graduations on it and injected it right in the tank every morning before I went to work.

From what I'm hearing its 1ml per 10 gallons. Did you mean to say 1ml per 10 gallons or did you do 10ml per 10 gallons ?. Did you also dump it straight in ? I have a 40 B with 20L sump. So probably around 50 gallons total, and its kinda scary to dump ( 4ml + ) into the top of the tank.

Pretty sure it was 10ml per 10g but you may be right on 1ml per 10g, yep I just dumped it in straight from the syringe, corals will be angry for 5-10 mins but seem unaffected after. Algae clears up and the water gets real clear/nice

1 mL per 10 gallons is what I have read and used so a a 10 gallon tank would use 1 mL my 5.5 gallon used about .5 to .6 or so mL a little more didn't hurt anything, and I have a mixed reef. There is a great write up about using peroxide do some google searching.

I don't know what "Dinos" are or is. Wonder if it would work on hair algae. I use Hydrogen peroxide in my pond... Dump it in by the bottle between spring and summer when the algea blooms. works great, never any casualty. I did read that too much would affect their gills though.

Funny, I was just mentioning peroxide in another thread on this same board. I've used it a lot as a dip, primarily. It's been pretty forgiving IME. Just last week I dumped about two ounces (inverted the bottle and went glug, glug) into my 20 gallon frag tank. It was a too much, a couple of the acans and some zoas (but not all) got a little burnt. All are recovering fine though.

I've dipped zoas at full strength for one minute, sun corals at 50% for three minutes. In both cases the corals were highly PO'd but did recover.

Not recommending these experimental amounts, just passing along the information.
