Numbers

So it is often made a very strong point on here that only so many fish can be kept in a given number of gallons, speaking in terms of "responsible" fishkeeping. Is there ever a point where there could be too many corals (speaking generally) in any given system? Just a thought.

You can get to a certain point where the crowding results in warfare. The battle usually escalates to chemical weapons. Left unchecked, that can be a death sentence for everything in the tank.

Current Tank Info: 55g mixed reef (upgrading to 150g Tall), 30g Long w/softies(soon to be a sump for the 150g), 20g Tall mixed, 5g w/softies, 10g quarantine that somehow turned into another softy tank

Yeah if they get too close they will release toxins which are bad for everything in the tank.

does this "warfare" typically happen in mixed reef tanks only or are SPS/LPS dominate tank susceptible to this as well?

From my understanding it can be any corals that can release toxins.

Right, but what I am asking is will SPS attack other SPS or just LPS and vice versa?

Soft corals release toxins, sometimes, LPS have sweeper tentacles, some longer than others which sting other corals, SPS are the least agressive but can still sting one another, albeit on a far smaller scale & typically SPS get along with most other SPS corals, this has been my experience, LPS need the widest berth.
