water change question
I rearranged my rockwork about a week ago. and added a dsb in my sump about 2 weeks ago. And got new lighting about 2 weeks ago.
I have had a bit of an algae outbreak. Nothing on sand or rocks, but on the glass. It looks like someone spray painted the glass green. My nitrates are 5 and under. I think I need to do a good water change, but my husband thinks I should leave it. He thinks the system is just recovering from the changes that were made.. Anyone have any advice. |

The glass is probably covered in green film algae. Definately clean it off with a mag float if you have one, or with a sponge/soft scrubby dedicated to the tank. Do NOT use a used kitchen sponge or washcloth that has been exposed to fabric softner...etc. Clean the glass very frequently or the algae will become harder to clean off. Most likely going through the normal cycling process and you will get algae. Most of it will disappear soon.
How long has the tank been up? If its still on its initial cycle, I wouldn't do a water change just yet. Good luck! |

Is it cycling or is this an established tank?

Is it just on the glass, or is it floating in the water?

Perhaps you had a phyto bloom of sorts after stirring things up....sometimes a short lights out period works. If it's mainly on the glass though, I would just wipe it off and catch it with some mechanical filtration of sorts, it won't hurt anything.
