Algae ID?

This stuff came on some rock I got from another source but left it curing for about 2 months before using. The green will not come off when scrubbed, so I was looking for some input. Do I need to be trying to get rid of it? Your advice is appreciated.

Thanks for your reply, when you say boil, do you mean in the traditional sense? I had all this rock sitting in a rubbermaid tote covered for two months. I know the temp was probably closer to about 85 deg. I'm also curious what exactly this stuff is?

I think it is bryopsis and you must scrape or burn or boil it off because it will spread to all the rocks....Forget about scraping it this does not work it onl grows back,...

Is it growing any? I think it's just a type of ugly coraline type of algae. I have some growing over the old dried up coraline. Not pretty, but not harmful either.

If it's fuzzy then reeferbills probably right. Can't really tell from the pics

Definitely fuzzy. This may present a challenge, because I have some really big pieces. Can it just be soaked in some kind of solution that would kill it off? I did want to preserve the life, but if it will spread bad algae in my tank, then it will have to go.

Sorry for pic quality, just cell phone shot to post quickly. I just got my mp40wes in the mail today! Super excited, but I'm going to pull this rock tonight. Planning on some new corals at the swap. I hope I'll be able to sleep tonight!

If your params are good and you have some sort of fuge with macro I wouldn't freak out too bad. IMO. When my params were stable, I'd get corals with bryopsis and hair algae and they would just die off or get eaten by the cuc. But if your params aren't the greatest then I would get rid of the problem quickly. JMO
