What is a great HOB filter you can get for a 30/G QT?
What is a good brand and what should I expect to get out of it? Is running Carbon and GFO ideal for a QT? Should I get something like a Fuval with trays for media?
Would a HOB skimmer be a wise investment? Sumping it would be fun, but just another headache than can potentially go wrong and flood the living room. Trying to achieve a healthy QT without headaches. |

I don't think you can go wrong with any of those Aquaclear HOB filters. Running a skimmer and using carbon/GFO is not needed. Your salinity, the ph and the temperature are really the only things that need to be kept in check.

Aquaclears are excellent HOB filters. Reliable, quiet and runs for years with no problems.

I have a Marineland Emperor 400 Power Filter (upto 90 gal) on my 30/G QT.
It used to be on my 65/G. I just don't like it, it's kinda hard to clean, doesn't start up that well, and sometimes can be noisy. It filters the water really well though. lol |

Aquaclears are the best hob filters by far. They are utterly silent and are easily customized. I'd rank Marineland 2nd because they work great and have nice features but they can be noisy. Aqueon filters are very quiet but the filter box is microscopic compared to the others.

I like the penguin/marineland 350 because I just float the biowheels in my refugium to keep them colonized with the good bacteria.

I am chiming in with the aq. IF the filter says good for 20-30g cut those ratings in half and it will go alot better. Ac 70 should be good for your tank. The only time mine get noisy is when the impellor need a cleaning.

I run the aquaclear 110 on my 30 gallon QT. I just leave the foam filter pad in my sump for about 6-8 weeks before using it to help get the good bacteria buildup.
