Sponges on my rock from Tampa Bay Saltwater
I got some liverock from (TBS)Tampa Bay Saltwater a year ago, and more 10 days ago.It is covered in sponges.
I still have some alive from over a year ago but may died. I scraped off the blue sponge on the 2nd day after I got it cause it was dieing/turning pale and stinking! After that all went great easy cycle, was cycled in 4 days. Some has a lot of cup corals on them too. My question is, what can I feed the sponges to keep them all alive? Also what about the bright red tunicates, what do i feed them? I still have a yellow sponge Richard gave me with a package over a yr. ago! The big orange tree had to be tossed about a month ago after 1 yr. it started to come apart at the tops of the limbs. But the bottom part still had the feeder tubes coming out when I feed green water to my tank. Please give me some advice if you know about any of this stuff before it starts to wither away! I have posted several pics. of my stuff if you need to see what kind of sponges they are, there are several types! Thanks for any help you can share!! http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...1#post19415253 |

Most sponges and tunicates (at least the non photosynthesis ones) consume bacteria as their main diet. A little bit of silica would help as well.
Personally, I would not go out my way to grow sponges or tunicates.
