How does my fish/coral list look?
Hey all I have a 90 gallon tank up and running for about a year now. I had always planned it to be a reef, but I just bought lights last week so now i'm onto the corals, finally.
Lights- 4X48" T5s Hamilton retrofit I got used w/ 2 daylight, 2 actinic bulbs supposedly less than a month old. Ive been doing 30g water changes every 2 weeks in place of a skimmer, but on monday im buying the biggest remora skimmer w/ pump. Gonna go next to a soon to be built rubbermaid sump w PVC overflow. Im actually pretty jazzed about the sump, its gonna be cheap and efficient, found good ideas on partitioning a rubbermaid here: http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6...sump-4939.html Current fish- 1 fancy perc clown 1 yellow tang 2 red firefish 1 purple firefish I would like to add another clown and a wrasse of some kind. Also if I ever see a used, guaranteed reef safe flame angel, I would probably have to get him, bc they are awesome. Corals planned...this is the part I need your advice. I want to get most LPS, couple softies, a clam and maybe a couple SPS. LPS- Frogspawn,Torch, Hammer are my favorite SPS, Ill prob get 2 of the 3 Brain Candy Cane Favia Softies- Polyps like Zoas, etc (anything colorful) green toadstool blue sympodium Mushrooms, maybe 1 or 2 MAYBE gsp if I have room Some kind of clam SPS- kept on the highest 2 or 3 rocks in my tank Montipora Capricornis Birdsnest Stylophora Basically I'm just trying to get any advice on the direction im going before I start gluing corals to the rocks. This is my first reef tank and I have no idea if a 90 gallon is enough to hold all of these corals for a sustained period of time. Im ok with a little chemical warfare but I dont want it to look like Halabja 2-3 years down the road. Thanks, Ryan |

The list sounds good but you'll have a hard time keeping a light loving clam happy since your tank is so tall for the x 4 T5s. Running a fan over them will run them a little brighter. I would still only get a derasa which is a little more tolerant though maybe not as colorful as say a maxima or crocea.
Zoos, mushrooms and gsp, be very careful with them taking over your liverock and rest of tank. But should do well. Are you buying the remora new ? Because there are much better designed skimmers nowadays. Hth. |

Too much for the skimmmer...you can get a far more effective one for less on Craigslist if you're patient....
