FireFish (pair??)

I have had a pair of firefish that I bought off Divers Den (as a pair).

They have been sharing a dart hole and got along completely fine for over a month. In the last few days it is almost like the smaller fire fish is scared to death of the larger. They are no longer sharing a dart hole and she is skittish and seems afraid.

She is still eating, but does look like she got a little banged up by him.

Any ideas what could have went wrong here? Or suggestions on what I should do?

Only have 1 fire fish per 75 gallons. Or keep them in odd numbers.

As I said, I bought them as a pair off the divers den. These weren't two firefish I just threw together and hoped for the best.

Firefishes have unique personalities. I have a purple and red firefish together in a 130 gallons. The first 4 months they were swimming together, after that they started to fight and it has been like that the last 7 months. The aquarium has a lot of rock and space if one of them decides not to fight and look another hole, but they insist to be very close to each other.

Well, I was able to get her out without having to break down the whole rock scaping. Got VERRRRRY lucky.

She is in my 15 gallon hospital tank now where I will keep an eye on her. She has kept up her appetite through all the harassment, so am confident she will recover. Once she gets settled in I am sure she will be much happier without the harassment.

A little bummed the pair did not last though!

Yea that sucks. If I paid a premium for a "pair" I would have expected more but I guess they are living animals.
