Angry MP40 vs. Peppermint Shrimp....

Put in 3 Peppermint Shrimp to help with a growing aiptasia problem on one LR.
It is a 55g with a lot of LR, 2 small Occ Clowns and two Cleaner Shrimp.
I introduced them to the opposite site of the tank away from the cleaner shrimp and where the bad LR is.
After 12 hours away, I came home to the cleaner shrimp eating the corpse of one the the peppermints, I thought maybe they had killed it until 24hrs later, I watched one of the peppermints swim up to the MP40w chasing a bit of food and he was sucked right in the side of the MP40..... It looked like a whole cube of food hit the blades...it really minced him up good and the other inhabitants had him for dinner
I slipped the foam cover on that came with the MP40, so maybe the remaining one will survive.
I used Aipasia-X on the two bigger Aipasias and will hope the survivor peppermint will take care of the rest. I really wanted to handle this problem without chemicals, but ended up feeding my fish instead. I did enjoy watching the Aipasias implode!!
Lesson learned: Be mind full the smaller creatures in a tank with an MP40! It was set at about 50% power.

I have put in pepperments in on a few occasions only to have the fish eat them right away. Know how it feels but I have yet to see one go into a mp40. I've seen my cleaners on my mp40... I assume these are tiny shrimp.

Did you have it on a constant speed at 50%

Sorry to hear about your losses.I would feel pretty bad after watching one of my critters go into a Mp-40.

Dang, sorry to hear that. I've never had issues with mine, and they hover around my MP40 all the time chasing food.

Yes, they are/were small at .75" and I place the blame on the Aipasia! That is why I so enjoyed watching them implode! I have it set on lagoon mode which isn't as violent as the others and seems to be perfect for this tank - except for the Peppermints... I have worried about my small male clown, but they hangout and sleep at the opposite end by and on the overflow teeth.
This foam cover seems to diminish the flow of the MP40??

I don't have an mp40 but I could only imagine that it would slow the flow some... You could always compensate by turning it up some. Also, you now have mechanical filtration so make sure to clean the foam as often as needed :-)

I use the foam on my anemone tank and yea it does reduce it a bit. Since you don't have it turned up all the way just increase it a bit.

I also have a mp60 and my flame hawk sits on it...

I have never seen a shrimp get sucked in by my mp60, however i have seen the aftermath of a witty cleaner wrasse.. He was sliced into almost 2.. lived for about an hour and died.
