Help! Clownfish Injured
So I have a clownfish in my DT and it looks like it has an open sore on it's body, I'm not really sure what it is from or what to do about it. Other then the sore he seems pretty happy, he is still eating and he isn't breathing fast so, I am not sure what it could be. Here is a picture.
I have a seperate QT tank that I can use for a hospital tank but I am worried that moving him over will stress him out and make it worse. Another worry I have is that I won't be able to bring the frogspawn that he hosts in. Will he be okay without that while he recovers? I made a post in Fish Disease forum, but no one responded and I am very worried he won't make it. |

I would take him out and put him in your hospital tank. I can't remember what it is called, but i had this happen to one of my Lion fish. At first he was being normal still eating and acting normal. Then like a light switch was turned on he stopped eating and the sore got bigger and he wasted away.
I waited to pull him out of my DT because I also didn't want to stress him out. I lost a procupine puffer, and a dog face puffer, during the same outbreak. |

I'd go with a broad spectrum antibiotic, like Maracyn for treatment.

Just plain Maracyn or Maracyn plus? I just want to make sure I get the right stuff.
Also, would it hurt to run PraziPro as well? |

You could use the Plus, the only difference is, it's two combined antibiotics, rather than the one in Maracyn.

if you cant catchem you can try medicated food a pellet at a time it works great in quarantine to it gets the med in his system better.they sell it petsmart its by jungle meds works great but you feed one tiny pellet at a time in display tanks so the pellets dont let a the meds out in the tank b4 eaten.people might say this product is no good or stinks cause its from petsmart but it is great i use it all the time.jungle bacteria small pellet .they also have a pellet for paracites wich is just a good and effective.i can never catch my clowns so this would be the way i would go.even if i caught him i would use the food best way to absorbe meds.

If it started small and is getting bigger and deeper, probably furunculosis (bacterial disease). Get him in the hospital tank and try some kanamycin or sulfa drugs. Get his immune system boosted too. Try food soaked in garlic. These are usually secondary infections, so perform hyposalinity 1.010-1.013 in the hospital tank as well. Clowns do not always do well in hypo, so keep a close eye on him. Do not move his coral for obvious reasons. Just provide hiding in the Hospital with PVC or fake coral. Good Luck, I hope he pulls through.

Well after the third try, which involved dismantling half my aquascape I was finally able to get the clownfish out. I currently have him in my QT and did one dose of the Maracyn Plus and his wound looks better already.
The only thing that stinks is that I already had a Hippo Tang into the 29 gallon QT and when I put the clownfish in there I stressed out the Tang and I think he starting to show some signs of Ich. I know that's it's good that he started showing signs before I put him in the DT, but now I am going to have to keep them both in there for 8 weeks or so. The one question I do have is, should I treat the Ich and infection at the same time or should I wait for the infection to go away and then start the treatment? Thanks! |
