Remora Pro Replacement Pump

I currently have a Remora Pro skimmer run with a Mag 7. The Mag 7 has become load. I tried replacing the housing and impeller but to no avail. This is my second Mag 7 to get load, so I am looking for another brand of pump that is quieter. I am running the larger collection cup on the Remora Pro. Does anyone have a suggestion on a pump?

I was looking at either the Quiet One 3000 pump and putting a 1" male to 1/2" reducer. Or Maxi Jet 3000 utiltiy pump (does anyone know the outlet size of this pump?). The Intake of the Remora Pro is 1/2" so I will have to reduce the outlet of the pump.

Thanks,

I'd go with the Maxi-jet. The Quiet Ones have a tendancy to not restart after powering down.

I just replaced the Mag3 on my Remora Pro with a Sicce Syncra Silent 1.5 - runs about 350 gph. Definitely lower flow than you're pushing with the Mag7, but there are larger Syncras available. The Sicce is sooooo much quieter than the Mag, I was amazed. Also a much smaller footprint in the tank.

I've tried the equivalent sized Quiet One also, wasn't really impressed. It restarted fine, but I couldn't get over the deep hum mine had.

I had a MAG3 on my remora pro, and it was perfect. I also have a quiet one pump in my RO/DI setup, and never had a start up problem as mentioned.
