Question Lifespan of Live rock

Hello all,

Been awhile since I posted. Hope all your tanks are doing great!!

Well I just had a quick question? does LR have a lifespan? Is there any reason you might want to change it out after a certain time?

I have had my same LR now for about 7 years now. it was first in my 65 gl reef tank but for the last 3 years it's been in my 45gl reef tank. ( I moved and downsized)

Anyways just wondering if after a long time it can become too "full" of Organic pluses? or negatives? (waste trapped inside it etc..)

I had 85lbs to start but have recently removed about 20lbs of it to give way for more water volume and room for fish to swim. ( this is all in my 45 gl tank)

I only ask because I just haven't had the success in my 45 gl tank the last year I had when I first downsized or the success I had in my 65gl tank.

thanks

"cooking" the rock can purge a lot of built up organics.
